Heading South: ARCTOS at Gordon Research Conference in Italy

Also polar marine scientists appreciate some mild climate every once in a while. Last week about 170 of this kind gathered at the notable Gordon Research Conference (GRC) close to the small Tuscany town of Barga, Italy. The GRC was chaired by one of the ARCTOS founders, Paul Wassmann, and Jacqueline M. Grebmeier.

In conjunction with the GRC about 70 young researchers (PhDs and PostDoc) gathered for a two day Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), which was chaired by Marie J.M. Seguret and ARCTOS PhD student Ingrid Wiedmann.Bildet GRS

During the GRS and GRC many cutting edge topics were discussed in an intimate and informal atmosphere. The GRC structure with long poster sessions and lunch breaks further facilitated these interactions by giving both senior and junior researchers the opportunity to contemplate about minor and major problems while hiking to the neighboring town or tasting some gorgeous cheeses.

GMC2015_ARCTOSARCTOS researchers were well represented with 16 participants in the GRC and 7 in the GRS. In the 2017 edition of the Polar Marine Science GRS, Ingrid Wiedmann will take over as a GRS chair and Jacqueline Grebmeier as GRC chair.
