PhD project title:
Physiological and ecological effects of organic and inorganic contaminants in marine and terrestrial raptor species.
PhD project description:
The main objective of my PhD-project is to investigate the physiological and ecological effects of legacy and emerging persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and mercury in marine and terrestrial raptor species from Norway, notably white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) and tawny owls (Strix aluco). Furthermore, I am interested in investigating the magnitude of exposure to POPs and mercury in both marine and terrestrial ecosystems, identifying relevant biomarkers of stress in relation to pollutant exposure in the two raptor species, and examining long-term population data with multiple stressor data (i.e., pollutant exposure, variability in dietary ecology and climate) to study combined effects of environmental stress and contaminants in marine and terrestrial top predators.
