Why become a member?
The ARCTOS membership provides several potential benefits for both researchers and students.
For students, the ARCTOS PhD support network provides an institutional home, where they can meet, exchange information, enhance their own research networks, and have input into how the PhD support network operates. In addition, ARCTOS PhD students have enhanced opportunities to participate in research cruises and training workshops, they have access to ARCTOS funds for organizing colloquia in topics relevant to their own research, and they can receive financial support to invite international experts to help in thesis supervision.
For post-docs we have recently started to provide similar support as for PhD candidates. They can choose a mentor among ARCTOS senior members to help with scientific problems, career development, work-life-balance and similar issues. Post-docs may also mentor PhD candidates.
ARCTOS members have access to these benefits for their students. In addition, the network enhances information exchange and visibility of publications, funding etc. ARCTOS sends out a newsletter containing many opportunities and announcements of interest to researchers, both nationally and internationally, and is another venue for advertising positions members have available. Finally, the ARCTOS network arranges and supports a number of thematic colloquia, workshops, and cruises during the year that members can help plan to best augment their research interests.
