In memory of Frank Beuchel

Written by Paul Renaud
Long-time ARCTOS member Frank Beuchel passed away on 21 April. Over the past 20+ years, Frank worked on sea-ice amphipod ecology, the hard-bottom photographic time-series initiated by Bjørn Gulliksen, interpretation of hyperspectral imaging of the sea floor, sensitivity of coastal habitats on Svalbard, and lately on plastic pollution on Arctic coasts using satellite and drone technology. Through his positions at UiT, IMR and Akvaplan-niva, Frank built many strong collaborations, but it is his infectious smile and positive attitude that will be most missed by his many close friends and colleagues in Tromsø and Svalbard.
